Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 12(ANI): Artisans from various states of the country showcased their authentic handloom and handicraft creations at an exclusive handloom exhibition organised in Shillong.

Organized in collaboration with the Development Commissioner for Handloom, under the Ministry of Textiles, Artfed, the 'Special Handloom Expo' commenced on December 3.

The expo is first of its kind to provide marketing extravaganza to weavers of the lower sections of society.

The expo showcases hand-woven products of states like Assam, Meghalaya, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmiri Handloom, famous for its handmade embroidery, also included various textile products like woollen shawls, dress pieces, among others.

"We have come from Jammu and Kashmir. In our stall we are selling original handmade textiles products like suit pieces, shawls, woollen dresses, gowns and ponchos. These are all handmade products, which we make in our homes back in Kashmir," said Bilal, an artisan from Jammu and Kashmir.

With more than fifteen stalls showcasing their artistic and colourful creations, the expo aimed at bringing the weavers and the co-operative societies to a common platform to sell their products.

"The Government has given a 10 percent rebate on the handloom products of each and every state, which gave a chance to the public to witness a wide range of products at one place. Our main aim was to put forward the various ethnic products of different states for sale in the market," said Ajit Kumar Bhattacharjee, Branch Manager of Artfed.

The expo will conclude on December 16. (ANI)
