Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Nov 20(ANI): Recent heavy unseasonal rains in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district have destroyed crops, including cotton, maize and sugarcane.
The nine sub-districts of Aurangabad district have received a total 14.15 mm rainfall, in the last a few days and many farmers of the region went for a tizzy as incessant rains lashed their crops.
They claim that they have incurred losses and are thus demanding compensation from the Government.
"We have incurred about 80 percent loss of sugarcane crop. Maize crop is still submerged in water. The Government should compensate us," said Sanjay Bodke, a farmer.
However, RL Deshmukh from the Agriculture Department of Aurangabad, said that the losses are miniscule.
"We are taking stock of the losses. However, as per my information, there hasn't been much loss. Even if some losses have happened to crops like cotton, they can be recovered. I believe that there has been much loss," Deshmukh said. (ANI)
