Two SIMI activists accused of triggering blasts brought to Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Fri, 06 Nov 2009 ANI

Ahmedabad, Nov 6 (ANI): Two Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activists arrested by Madhya Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) were brought to Ahmedabad on Thursday for their alleged links in the bomb blasts of last year.

The arrested SIMI activists identified as Mohammad Shafiq and Mohammad Yunus are accused in the Ahmedabad serial blasts, which took place on July 26 2008.

"Two accused related to the Ahmedabad serial blasts case have been brought from Indore. They are believed to be involved in the Ahmedabad blasts conspiracy and have links to Safdar Nagori (SIMI-Chief) and they have been training at camps in Kerala and Halol," said Abhay Chudasma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad.

"The arrested persons have several offences registered against them in Madhya Pradesh and their arrest will also help the police to know what they did in the past one year at different training camps of the country," he added.

"Their links with the wanted accused and their relation with them in the past one and a half years would be known. We hope to get useful lead in the places they visited and what all they did," he said.

A group named the 'Indian Mujahideen' owned up the responsibility for the Ahmedabad blasts. It sent an e-mail five minutes prior to the first blast in which it was mentioned that it was in revenge for a 2002 massacre in Gujarat. (ANI)
