China vows to work with international community to eliminate al-Qaeda threat

Beijing, Sat, 10 Oct 2009 ANI

Beijing, Oct. 10 (ANI): In the wake of an al Qaeda militant urging the Muslim Uighur minority in Xinjiang to launch jihad against the oppressive Chinese regime, Bejing has vowed to work with the international community to deal with terrorism.

"We will continue to cooperate with the international community to jointly face the terrorism threat...Xinjiang has fully implemented the policies of equality of all ethnic minorities and religious freedom," China Daily quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma, as saying.

His statement follows a threat by prominent Al-Qaida militant, Abu Yahya al-Libi, who threatened to attack Chinese targets in "reprisal" for the July 5 riots in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and for the suppression of Muslims.

Ma added that China is capable of protecting its national interests.

"China has the confidence and capability to secure national security, and protect the safety of people's lives and properties," he said. (ANI)
