Singhudurg, Sat, 03 Oct 2009 ANI

Sindhudurg (Maharashtra), Oct 3(ANI): Floods caused by incessant rains continued to wrecked havoc in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district on Saturday, as hundreds of people were left stranded and acres of agricultural lands were washed away.

According to reports, the Pichdhaval River is in spate. Two buses have been stranded on the Mumbai-Goa highway that passes through the district.

There were no reports of any casualties so far, but the Mumbai-Goa highway has been closed down after reports of severe water logging and landslides from parts of the district.

A low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has triggered the rain since Friday night and as per the weather department, heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely to occur in Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri and several other districts of Maharashtra during the next 24-hours.

Relief and rescue operations have begun and efforts are being made to rescue people stranded in flooded areas. (ANI)
