Purulia (WB), Oct 3 (ANI): Maoists blew up a railway track on Saturday, causing suspension of train services in West Bengal's Purulia district.
The incident took place on the day of their nationwide shutdown organized for the release of Chhatradhar Mahato, the leader of People's Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA).
The railway track near Urma station in Purulia district was blown up around midnight Friday.
"Around 11.45 we heard a loud noise and saw a blaze. The railway track has got derailed to about one foot. Four-five track sleepers had broken and about four feet deep ditch has been formed. The wires are also damaged," said Hari Padhyo Roy, a resident.
The Maoists are making desperate attempts to demonstrate their writ by indulging in violence in remote areas.
Meanwhile, massive hunt has been launched to nab the Naxals responsible for the killing 16 people in Khagaria district on Friday. At least ten persons have already been detained in this connection. (ANI)
