Gwalior, Sep 21(ANI): Supporters of Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday clashed with each other over burning of an effigy of Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia.
BJP supporters wanted to burn Jyotiraditya's effigy to protest against the rocketing prices of food grains and other basic commodities.
A scuffle broke out when Congress supporters objected to the burning of the effigy of their leader.
"Congress party didn't protest against any demonstration, but we were against the effigy burning of our party's leader. Our party doesn't believe in burning effigies of individuals. This practise was started by BJP," said Prakash Khandelwal, District President of Congress Party.
"Today, we came to protest against the effigy burning of our leader, but not any demonstration. They can carry on with their demonstration. But we will protest against the effigy burning," he added.
Police had to baton-charge to bring the situation under control, during which some of the supporters were injured. he injured were taken to a local hospital.
According to reports, some Congress supporters were arrested after the clash. (ANI)
