Incessant heavy rains wreak havoc in UP villages

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Patiyali (UP), Aug 17 (ANI): Heavy incessant rains have wreaked havoc in several villages in Uttar Pradesh.

Heavy downpour for past three months have left several villages in Patiyali sub-division of Etah district, inundated, causing major loss to the villagers as they have lost their crops due to the rains and water logging.

The rains have also led to the collapse of several houses in these villages.

"It has been raining here for past three months. For the last one-month, we are in a very bad condition. Many houses have fallen down in the rains. People have nowhere to go and nothing to eat," said Aslam Khan, a villager.

Lamenting negligence on the part of administrative authorities, the villagers are forced to take things in their hands as they themselves clear away the debris of the fallen houses and empty water from their inundated houses.

The condition is so bad that many of the villagers are left with no option, but to leave their homes in search of safer places.

"The rains have caused a lot of destruction in our house. We have lost almost all our belongings in the rain water. There is nobody to pay any heed to our troubles. Despite our repeated complaints, nobody has come to help us in our predicament," said Qadir Naseem, another villager.

According to the villagers, there have been several casualties as well.

The administrative authorities, however, assured that help would be provided to the villagers as soon as possible.

"After a survey, we will compensate the villagers for the loss incurred by them due to the rains. All possible help will be provided to the people," said P.K. Shrivastava, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Patiyali. (ANI)
