Oct 22: Samuel’s late bust aided Amity United scoring a 2-1 win over ONGC to advance into the final qualifying round in the 120 th Osian’s Durand Cup football qualifiers match played at the Ambedkar stadium here on Sunday.
Amity United got into lead in the 32nd minute through Praveen. Both sides were evenly poised with players trying their hard to outplay each other. In a grumpy match spectators witnessed some aggressive play and rough tackling prompting the referee to show as many as seven yellow cards, with three cards being shown in the first half itself. Amity kept its lead till half time.
After resumption, ONGC players got their act together and restored parity in the 54th minute through international Jatin Singh Bisht. ONGC players made a comeback in to the match, but their team run out of fuel in the last session of the match. The game was nearly heading towards extra-time before Amity United’s Samuel netted the ball in the penultimate minute of the game sealing the fate of the opponents.
On Saturday, City Football Club came from behind to beat Assam Regiment 2-1 and moved into the final qualifying round.
Assam Regiment’s Bula shot ahead his team in the 20th minute while Adhing scored the equaliser two minutes before the half time. City Club exerted pressure in the opposition’s camp and surged ahead, as Rajiv Saini scored the winner in the 85th minute for the local outfit.
