BSF recovers 6 kilograms of heroin in Punjab

Jalandhar, Mon, 17 Aug 2009 ANI

Jalandhar, Aug 17(ANI): The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday seized six kilograms of heroin from the agricultural fields in a Punjab village near Amritsar during a combing operation of the area near the India-Pakistan border.

BSF officials said that six packets, weighing a kilogram each, were found from an agricultural field. Pakistani smugglers would have thrown these packets in the late hours of Sunday when they were challenged.

"The 41 battalion of BSF (Border Security Force) recovered six kilograms of heroin. Last night (Sunday), officials noticed some suspicious movement at the international border and issued an alert. The smugglers were not capable of crossing the border," said Himmat Singh, the Inspector General of the BSF.

"In the morning, when BSF officials inspected the site, they discovered six packets of heroin from an agricultural field," Singh added. (ANI)
