Srinagar, Aug.16 (ANI): Security personnel shot down a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant during a gunfight, which occurred in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
The encounter broke out in the morning in Aarmullah village of Pulwama district, 40 kilometres from Srinagar, when the Indian Army and police personnel were carrying out a joint combing operation following a tip off about some militants hiding in a house.
"One militant was killed in a joint operation carried by the Indian Army and police. The gunfighting broke after the militant holed up in a house opened fire on the search party. The standoff lasted for couple of hours," said police spokesman in Srinagar.
The gunfight has stopped and search operation is on, a police spokesman said in the afternoon.
Police claimed to have recovered a hand grenade, two AK magazines, four cellular phones, and a pouch from place of incident.
The killed militant has been identified as Jan Mohammad Ahanger alias Hamza of Buchoo-Tral village of the district. (ANI)
