Chheb Village (Himachal Pradesh), Aug 6 (ANI): Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran has inaugurated a branch of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Chheb village of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.
It is the 13th branch of the NIFT in the country. The institute will offer undergraduate programme in five disciplines viz. Fashion Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Fashion Communication and Apparel Production.
Apart from this NIFT, Kangra will also award doctorate degrees in fashion designing.
State Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and many other state officials were present during the event.
NIFT Kangra has been set up in a record time of six months.
Students said that the institute would help in improving the standard of education in Himachal Pradesh.
"This institute is very important for Himachal Pradesh because Himachal Pradesh is a little bit lower on the population side and there is a lack of quality institutes. The number of students which require quality education are increasing. The fashion industry will definitely benefit this state," Abhadesh, a student.
"It is very important for Kangra as well as Himachal Pradesh that such a good institution has come up here. The NIFT people and the Government have chosen this place to set up such a huge institute," said Nidhi, another student.
State-run NIFT has emerged as the leading institute of fashion designing and management in India. (ANI)
