Oct 15: On the fourth day of the festival, the fourth manifestation of goddess ‘Durga’ which is called ‘Kooshmanda’ is worshipped. She is the one who bears this universe and nurtures. She is the consciousness in the human beings. This has been mentioned in ancient Hindu scriptures that Devi ‘Kooshmanda’ has been named so because she produced the universe by her smile. She created the universe by her smile otherwise before that there was nothing but the darkness prevailing everywhere.

She has been described as having eight arms in which she carries ‘’Kamandal’, ‘dhanush’, ‘ban’, ‘ lotus’, ‘ pitcher full of nectar’, ‘wheel’, and ‘ gada’ respectively. The eight hands carry the chanting garland of beads which gives all the treasures of the world.

This is said that she lives in the inner area of the ‘Sun’. None but she has this capability to survive in that area of the sun. This is why she carries an appearance with the same glow and light. She does not have any comparable for her influence. She spreads her light in all the ten directions of the universe.

Her vehicle is lion. Everything in this world and every human being on this earth is lighted by her aura.

One who worships this form of goddess gets rid of all diseases. She blesses her worshipper with long life, fame, power and health. She gets pleased with little worship and makes this world pleasant for the worshipper. Worship of this goddess leads the human being on the path of success, progress and prosperity. Those who worship this goddess achieve progress in material as well as spiritual field.
