Veraval (Gujarat), July 26 (ANI): The Centre has pressed personnel of the National Disaster Management Force (NDMF) into service to rescue the stranded villagers in the flood-affected areas of Gujarat.
According to official sources over 3,000 families in Junagadh, Porbander and Jamnagar districts have been shifted to safer places.
A team from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has been working round the clock in Veraval town, where several areas have been inundated following heavy flooding in Devka river.
The officials have evacuated about 1,200 persons from Veraval town. Personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have also been pressed into rescue operations in some parts of the state.
Inspector of the National Disaster Response Force, B.K.Vishvash said, "For the past two days we are working. We are worked throughout yesterday and today also we are trying out best to rescue villages."
According to sources heavy rains have led to overflowing of almost all the dams in the Jamnagar region, leading to flooding in the nearby areas.
The water has also inundated the roads, culverts and bridges, disrupting transport and cutting off the region from rest of the state, sources said.
Agricultural lands with sown crops have been badly damaged. The overall losses caused by the heavy downpour are estimated to be millions of rupees, sources said. (ANI)
