Karnal (Haryana), July 19 (ANI): The Crime Branch of Haryana police on Sunday confiscated a huge quantity of sedatives and other medicines from a medical store in Haryana's Karnal district.
A tip off led the crime branch to raid a medical store from where addictive painkillers worth lakhs of rupees were confiscated, which were being stocked, sold and distributed without license.
According to the police, they have confiscated 25,000 fortwin tablets, fortwin tablets, 100,000 oxytoxin pills and 50,00,000 alprazolam capsules inside the godown of National Medical Drug Hall.
Besides these, they also recovered 22,00,000 diazepam and 50,000 nitrozopam among the illegally stocked drugs.
"We caught the van of the owner of the National Medical Drug Hall supplying drugs. We took samples of four drugs in the van. But, there was no sale and purchase record of these drugs," said Suresh Sharma, Inspector, Crime Branch of Haryana police.
"Following that, we came to the store for further investigation and found that the owner had an unlicensed godown and had stored medicines illegally. We got a huge cache of sedatives. We found oxytoxin, which is a banned drug," Suresh Sharma added.
Meanwhile, the store owner has been taken into custody and the police are investigating the matter to ascertain all details.
The sedatives, to be dispensed strictly on prescription, were sold illegally to the needy people and the drug addicts at a premium price. (ANI)
