Oct 10: India’s tennis sensation Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Patty Schnyder advanced to the second round of the $2,340,000 Kremlin Cup, outplaying Russia’s Vera Dushevina and Tatiana Perebiyinis of Ukraine with a 6-1, 6-3 scoreline, played at the Olympic stadium in Moscow on Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, the 20-year old Sania Mirza crashed out, in the first round of the singles event of Tier I tournament in an hour and 15 minutes going down, 3-6, 4-6 to Argentine Gisela Dulko. This was the third straight time that the Argentinean had beaten the Indian.
The Sania-Schnyder duo will now face another top seeded pair of Cara Black and Liezel Huber in the second round.
The 29th ranked Sania came in to this tournament after a quarterfinal appearance at the Japan Open last week.
