Khattapani (Uttarakhand), Aug 10 (ANI): Residents of a cluster of villages like Khattapani in Uttarakhand are in a joyous mood on receiving electricity after 80 years of wait.
For the residents of Khattapani and other neighbouring villages, power all these years was a mirage since they could only see the well lit Mussoorie at night.
The local legislator merely quipped to say, better late than never.
"Though it took the authorities bit long to get electricity to Khattapani, it is not the fault of administration only. We tried our best to get electricity here, but it took us sometime," said Jot Singh Gunsola, the member of the Uttarakhand State Assembly representing Mussoorie.
Today, most elders recall how for three generations, they had to spend their lives under hurricane lamps after dusk.
"For nearly a hundred years we led a life of isolation from the rest of society. Getting power today after mutely watching a lit up Mussoorie means nothing. This can't be termed as something of an overnight development. Life has gone in the past and will also go on now," said Himanshu, a resident of Jodi village.
The redeeming factor of belated electrification of Khattapani has been that today the children can study at night under a bulb. (ANI)
