Kullu (HP), May 5 (ANI): A sacred horse was set off on a four-month trip of Hindu temples in Himachal Pradesh in a bid to promote world peace on Thursday.

The horse's journey called 'Ashawamedh Yatra' began amidst rituals in Kullu, a hilly resort in Himachal Pradesh.

During the period the horse will be taken to all the temples in the region.

Raja Maheshwar Singh, a former lawmaker and a priest began the journey on horseback after performing rituals at the revered Raghunath temple.

Singh said the ritual was postponed due to the elections held during April/May.

"It was to begin before but because of elections it got postponed. The priests decided on a new date and today was found to be an auspicious day and it was started today. The procession will culminate on October 15-16," said Singh.

After its arrival, fire rituals would be organised in the temple in October.ocal King Jaganand installed an idol of Raghunath (Lord Ram) on his throne as a mark of penance, in the 17th century after which Raghunath came to be known as the ruling deity of Kullu valley. By Prem Thakur (ANI)
