Spurious milk meant for Delhi seized in Haryana

Gurgaon/Chandigarh, May 29 (IANS) Thousands of litres of spurious milk, including milk meant to be supplied under the Delhi Milk Scheme to residents of the national capital, have been seized following raids at various places in Haryana, police officials said Friday.

 

Led by Inspector General of Police (Crime) Mahender Lal, police parties and health officials raided places across Haryana over the last two days to burst the well-organised racket of manufacturing spurious milk.

 

 

Over 74,000 litres of milk and hundreds of kilogrammes of other material used for making spurious milk were seized in the raids, a police spokesman said in Chandigarh.

 

 

He said during a raid conducted at Dharuhera in Rewari district, 100 km from Delhi, it was found that a plot was taken on lease in the name of essential milk producers cooperative at Dharuhera's industrial area.

 

 

Police seized 26,000 litres of milk, 150 kg caustic soda, 158 bags of milk powder and 16 barrels of glucose. Over 1,900 litres of manufactured solution of spurious milk was also recovered from the chilling plant and samples of this were taken.

 

 

He said that milk used to be brought to Dharuhera from Dausa in Rajasthan and after adulteration, it was being supplied in Delhi under Delhi Milk Scheme and also to a milk powder manufacturing factory in Kundli in Haryana on the outskirts of Delhi.

 

 

Police also recovered a truck carrying about 2,400 litres of milk from the owner of an ice factory located in Kaithal town, 110 km from Chandigarh.

 

 

Nearly 15 kg of glucose powder was recovered from the ice factory. This milk was to be supplied to Madhu Milk Food Factory at Pehowa near Kurukshetra, 100 km from Chandigarh.

 

 

Two tankers full of milk were recovered from Ram Dairy in Kurukshetra town. These tankers contained 13,000 and 7,000 litres of spurious milk respectively. Police also

 

 

recovered over 11 kg powdered sugar, over 26 kg caustic soda and nearly 14 kg of chemicals.

 

 

Another milk tanker that had come from Samana town in neighbouring Punjab and was carrying milk for a dairy in Shahbad town, 60 km from Chandigarh near Ambala, was also impounded. It was carrying nearly 16,500 litres of spurious milk.

 

 

Another 9,000 litres of milk and 30 bags of milk powder were recovered from the chilling plant of A.R. Milk Foods in the Dharuhera industrial area. This milk was also meant for the Delhi market, the spokesman added.
