Tabu was born on November 4, 1971 in Hyderabad to Jamal Hashmi and Riawana. Her mother was a schoolteacher. She is the younger sister of actress Farah Naaz. She attended St. Anns high school in Hyderabad and latter went to St. Xavier's College in Mumbai.
