The News about Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is another largest political party of India that is currently as the biggest party in opposition in the Parliament. Since its emergence in 1980, BJP is in news and centre of attractions among media and public. Currently BJP is the second largest party that was ruling in the most of the states after Indian National Congress.

BJP is the erstwhile form of Bhartiya Jana Sangh, the political wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh that was founded by Syama Prasad Mookerjee in October 21, 1951. BJP first time come in the limelight when it adopted the Ram Janma Bhumi Mandir Movement in 1984. BJP fought election in the same year but could manage to win only two seats. Later the movement aggravated and BJP first time came in the power for only 13 days from 16th May 1996 to 01st June 1996. Senior BJP Leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the 11th Prime Minister of India.

Two years later, BJP once again came into the power with the support of other political parties and formed the government but this too could not sustain more than 13 months and collapsed due to withdrawing support by J. Jayalalitha lead All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in 1999. On 13th October 1999, Atal Bihari Vajpayee took oath for the third time as the Prime of India and this government completed its full term.

BJP lost the 2004 election due to its anti-incumbency factor and congress led United Progressive Alliance came into power and Manmohan Singh became the 14th Prime Minister of India. He retained his position for the second time and presently holding the top position of Indian government.

The beleaguered BJP lost two consecutive elections and could manage to contain 116 seats in Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament out of total 545 seats. BJP has 51 seats out of total 250.
