It is the story of a little boy who lost his mother in an accident in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's capital and then in his desperate search of his long lost father he came into contact with an aged woman who at first tries to sell the boy to trafficking agent but at last comes into his rescue and both of them set off for a long journey in search of the boy's father. They meet a devout Catholic on the road who proves to be unusually kind and in another place both of them lose each other within a Christmas celebration in Brazilian countryside and find each other again only to search a way out to get rid of their penniless condition. Their whole journey is full of fun with many unpredictable and surprise outcomes and in the end it is heart rendering, sweet and melancholy. It is one of the greatest Christmas movies for kids and grownups to watch together. The movie is in Spanish and so English subtitles are must.

Pan's Labyrinth

It is another classic movie from Latin America with a little girl in central role. This little girl who is endowed with some supernatural powers to connect with the hidden power of nature and who used to be the princess of a nether land (as the story revealed to us) in the end come to the rescue of his newborn brother and dying mother to free them from the shackles of his oppressive father. In spite of the help of a faun from the nether land she cannot save her mother but sacrificing her life saves his little brother. The movie set in the backdrop of Spanish civil war is equally a historic timepiece, a sensitive rendering of life's simple truth and beautiful fantasy with the occasional use of animated figures. You cannot name another movie watching which grownups begin to think like sensitive children as the movie progresses and that's the chemistry behind the tremendous applause it received all over the world.
