Swami Haridas

Swami Haridas is said to be one of the genius of Ancient Indian music and poetry. He was famous for his for the simplicity and literary beauty of his poetic and musical compositions. He was the deserving teacher of Miyan Tansen and was the renowned spiritual leader of his times. Regarding the birth of this genius two schools of thought give differences of opinions. The first school opines that Haridas was the son of Brahmin and was born in 1512 in Aligarh Uttar Pradesh but the second school of thought opines that Haridas was born in Brindaban in 1480.

Haridas was the master of Rasa, which was taking a major role in his compositions of music centering round the Radha Krishna Love. This was the chief feature of Swami Haridas of showing his devotion along with musical qualities. Spiritual thought was taking a leading role in the music of Haridas so was he considered as one of the leading figures of Bhakti movement. Through these means Haridas had been a great master of Hindustani music. His music was mainly devotional thus it attracted many followers who had been maddened by the music of this saint. Really Haridas brought a conglomeration of Bhakti with music, which gave him an incomparable reputation. He was the pioneer in the creation of new styles and methodologies of music like Dhrupad and Vishnupad. Haridas has a major contribution chiefly to the classical music of India and he is liable for its higher development. After his death he was entombed in Vrindaban.
