The Nationalist Congress Party was formed by the assembling of Sharad Power, P. A. Singhvi and Tariq Anwar when they were fired from Indian National Congress on the ground of their argument of Sonia Gandhi as a foreigner who is not to be the leader of the party in May 1999 in Delhi, capital of India. The present union minister for Agriculture Sharad power was elected as the leader of the new political party. The party recently got the status of a national political party. The Nationalist Political party advocates itself as a progressive, secular and non-religious party which eyes on executing Gandhian principles of secularism, non-violence, democracy and federalism. The party also advertises itself as a magnanimous, moderate, middle and alternative party to both Indian National Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party. The national party also aims at national unity of the country eradicating all the barriers present among all the classes, castes, races, sexes, colors, and breeds in India. Though the veterans of NCP were all adept congress persons still in a short span of time the party has accomplished many results. The party has its base mainly in the Indian state of Maharastra where it has formed govt.with the coalition of Indian National Congress so also in the center. In the 2004 parliamentary poll NCP has won nine seats thus showing a step of success.
