US to open consulates in Brazil

United States America,Diplomacy, Tue, 10 Apr 2012 IANS

Washington, April 10 (IANS) The US will open two new consulates in Brazil in an effort to keep up with the "expanding relationship" between the two countries, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Monday.

The State Department has been working hard to meet the demand in countries like Brazil and China, which has "far exceeded" the capacity of the American diplomatic mission, Clinton said during her speech at the US Chamber of Commerce.

She noted that the opening of the two new consulates, one in Belo Horizonte and one in Porto Alegre, is aimed at keeping up with "our expanding relationship".

"We're trying to make it easier to get those visas, easier to travel, knock down some of the barriers that have been put up, and continue to promote people-to-people contact," Xinhua quoted Clinton as saying.
