Harrington won British Open Golf tourney with `one arm'

London, July 21 (ANI): First there was Tiger Woods winning the U.S. Open on one leg. Now Padraig Harrington has won the British Open title with one good arm.

Before the tournament began, the Irishman feared he would not even make it to the first tee because of an injured right wrist.

He, however, put off a challenge posed by Ian Poulter to win by four shots.

According to The Sun, Harrington shot a final round 69 to finish three over.

"There is a saying that you should beware the injured golfer - and my injury turned out to be a saviour for me. It took the pressure, stress and expectation away," he said after his win.

"Unlike Tiger's, my injury didn't impair me. It just kept me away from practice. I only played nine holes before Thursday - and that turned out to be a bonus," he added.

Harrington has become the first golfer to win back-to-back Opens since Arnold Palmer in 1962, and he is the first European to do it since James Braid 102 years ago. (ANI)
