Washington, July 8 (ANI): A Pakistani American living in Texas allegedly killed his daughter for refusing to live with her husband, because she was not happy with her marriage. The girl was strangulated to death, said the police.
This is the second instance in the recent months that has come to light in the US, whereby a Pakistani father killed his daughter for "honour". A few months ago, a Pakistani cabdriver in Toronto had strangulated his 16-year-old daughter Aqsa Pervez for her refusal to wear hijab.
In what the local media described as an "honour killing", 54-year-old Chaudhry Rashid of Jonesboro, Texas, became angry during an argument with his daughter Sandela Kanwal (25) who reportedly told him that she did not want to live with her husband anymore. She had not lived with her husband for three months, reported the Daily Times.
Kanwal lived with her father after returning from her husband's home in Chicago, police said.
Rashid had a seizure shortly after the alleged attack, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Neighbours said there appeared to be several people living in Rashid's home, but they were not sure who they were or how they were related. The family moved in about two or three years ago. "Things like that don't happen in this neighbourhood," a local woman said.
According to the police, investigation into the case had slowed down due to "language barriers". (ANI)
