Canberra, Jan 13(ANI): A 45-year-old Australian lashed for blasphemy in Saudi Arabia has recounted his horror tale of his three- month ordeal in prison, after returning home following an unexpected royal pardon.
He arrived in Melbourne on a plane from Dubai early this morning and was met by his family.
Mansor Almaribe, 45, said he thought he would never meet his family again after being found guilty of religious blasphemy and unable to contact his family.
He said he wore thongs in the "cold, dirty" prison as he only had few clothes, The Age reports.
Alamaribe was fed cheese for breakfast and rice for lunch everyday and added that his medication, for conditions including diabetes, were soon exhausted.
He accused the Australian government of rendering inadequate assistance to help him and pointed out that citizens of other countries, who had been charged with the same offences, were set free.
He said Australia's assistance consisted of asking him questions about his health.
Almaribe was held in Medina, a city where only Muslims are permitted to enter under the Saudi law.
Father-of-five Almaribe was sentenced in November after being arrested for alleged religious offences.
Almaribe's sentence was later commuted and his punishment reduced from 525 to 75 lashes. (ANI)
