Pak Supreme Court moved against sacking of Lodhi as Defence Secretary

Islamabad, Thu, 12 Jan 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Jan 12(ANI): A petitioner has moved the Pakistan Supreme Court against the sacking of Defence Secretary Khalid Naeem Lodhi by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

"General Lodhi was dismissed for gross misconduct and illegal action...and for creating misunderstanding between institutions," a Pakistan government's statement had said.

Gilani has, subsequently, appointed Nargis Seth as new Pakistan's Defence Secretary.

An advocate, Tariq Asad has urged the court to prevent the army from taking any unconstitutional step in the wake of escalating tensions with the government

He pleaded that Lieutenant -General Lodhi was sacked over the Supreme Court's orders in the memo case and the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) implementation case, The Dawn reports.

General Lodhi, who took over as the defence secretary on November 28, 2011, was considered to be a close confidant of army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani. (ANI)
