Washington, Jan 06(ANI): Claims made by a Republican politician that confidential information regarding the killing of notorious terrorist Osama bin Laden had been disclosed to Oscar winning filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow, are now being probed by the US military and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
The Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Peter King claimed that he had appealed for an investigation after reports came out that confidential film footage regarding Laden's killing was provided to Bigelow and Sony Pictures by the Obama administration.
"I am pleased that the Inspectors General at DOD (the US Defence Department) and the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) agree with me that potential leaks to filmmakers are something worth investigating and taking action to address," said King.
He also expressed his concerns over the security of the mission's brave soldiers and their families, The Telegraph reports.
"The leaks that followed the successful bin Laden mission led to the arrests of Pakistanis and put in danger the mission's heroes and their families," he added.
King had originally requested for an inquiry into the matter in August last year.
He confirmed that a probe has been started after he produced the November dated letter from the office of the deputy director of the CIA as well as the correspondence from the office of the Pentagon Inspector from last month. (ANI)
