Canberra, Jan 2 (ANI): Media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who joined Twitter less than 48 hours ago, has quickly deleted a tweet suggesting that the British have too many holidays for a "broke country".
"Maybe Brits have too many holidays for broke country!", Murdoch, who already has almost 40,000 followers, tweeted while on a holiday in Australia.
His wife, Wendi Deng, who also appears to have joined Twitter, quickly replied, "RUPERT!! delete tweet!!"
Within minutes the Wendi Deng account, which has not yet been verified, continued, "EVERY1 @rupertmurdoch was only having a joke pROMSIE!!!"
The message was, however, preserved by some Twitter users and was quickly spread around the micro blogging website, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
According to the report, about five hours later Murdoch revealed his Twitter profile was causing people close to him some angst.
"I'm getting killed for fooling around here and friends frightened what I may really say!" he tweeted.
According to the paper, 80-year-old Murdoch's decision of joining Twitter has been greeted with surprise by many, given his previous view of the Internet as the home of "porn, thievery and hackers". (ANI)
