Beijing, Dec 31(ANI): The Chinese government has cracked down on online banking theft to combat phishing and ensure that the websites of legitimate banks appear at the top of search results.
Phishing attacks involve messages that seem messages of legitimate banks and organisation but direct people to a fake website to enter their banking details, which are subsequently looted by cyber criminals.
"The department believes the recent leak of user information is a serious infringement of the rights of internet users and threatens internet safety," the BBC quoted a Chinese Ministry statement, as saying.
The move by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology comes after a popular chat site Tainya revealed that the banking details of over 40 million people have been stolen in separate cyber attacks across the country.
The ten biggest search engines in China have so far signed up to the anti-phishing scheme, and some them will likely place a special icon next to the bank links to flag them as legitimate. (ANI)
