London, Dec 30(ANI): The father of the Indian student who was shot dead in Manchester, United Kingdom on Boxing Day, has claimed to have found about the news of his son's death through Facebook.
Anuj Bidve, 23, was shot in the head at a close range by an unidentified man wearing a grey shirt, as he was walking with his friends near their hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester.
Anuj's father Subhash Bidve accused the UK Government of failing to contact him to break the news of his death.
"Nobody official from the UK Government or consulate or the Indian Government called us and told us about this," The Telegraph quoted him, as saying.
"I am really surprised because they confiscated his phone and must have know his father's or mother's number. They could have called us and told us what had happened to him," he added.
He has now called on the British authorities to speed up the returning of his son's dead body to India.
Investigators have, so far, failed to detect a clear motive behind the killing and suspect that the incident was a hate crime.
Greater Manchester's Chief Superintendent Kevin Mulligan said the police had so far failed to trace the gun used in the killing.
"Anuj's family deserve to see his killer brought to justice and I want people to think 'What if it was my brother, son, husband or boyfriend who simply went out with friends and was killed?" he added.
Bidve's family is due to arrive in Manchester from Pune to claim his dead body.
Bidve, a postgraduate microelectronics student at Lancaster University, was staying in Greater Manchester with friends over the Christmas holidays. (ANI)
