Rome, Dec 27 (ANI): Ousted Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has suggested that his political days are far from over, saying that he is 'still on the track'.
"I'm still on track and will also be in the future," Berlusconi said during a phone call broadcast by Italian media.
Berlusconi, who is currently a defendant in three trials including one for allegedly having sex with an under age prostitute, resigned on November 16 as Italy's financial crisis worsened.
He was succeeded by Mario Monti, an economist and former EU commissioner who immediately pledged drastic austerity measures and tax increases.
During the interview, Berlusconi blasted Monti's reforms as potentially pushing Italy into recession.
The comment drew quick scorn from the opposition Democratic Party, The Telegraph reports.
"Unbelievable. First, (Berlusconi) hides the crisis, then he pursues policies that risk making us collapse like Greece," the paper quoted Giorgio Merlo, a party leader, as saying.
Berlusconi, who hinted at a return to politics previously, defended his People of Freedom party, saying its popularity was rebounding in various polls.
In November, just after his successor Monti was appointed, Berlusconi posted a letter to his Facebook page saying, "I share your spirit and I hope that together we can resume the road to government." (ANI)
