Pyongyang, Dec 26 (ANI): North Korea's state-run media has started a campaign designed to create the appearance of popular support for new leader Kim Jong un to take control of the military after the death of his father, Kim Jong Il.
Rodung Shinmun, the newspaper that officially is a unit of the Ruling Workers' Party, recently began touting a higher-level military appointment for the young Kim Jong un, who was tapped as a four-star general by his father in September 2010.
Kim Jong un, who is believed to be 27 or 28 years old, has only one military title and a relatively minor post in the political party, The Wall Street Journal reports.
According to the paper, a first step in lifting the young Kim's portfolio of titles appeared to emerge with Saturday's commentary in Rodung Shinmun.
The paper called Kim Jong un "identical" to his father and invoked the name of his grandfather, who is the most revered figure in North Korea.
"Please assume the supreme commandership, as wished by the people, to lead Kim Il Sung's Korea to eternal victory," the Rodung Shinmun said.
Following the death of the nation's long-time ruler Kim Jong Il, his son is now expected to take over control of the family-led dictatorial regime that has run North Korea since its founding in 1948.
Kim Jong Un was unveiled in September 2010 as his father's choice as successor, will be the third-generation Kim to rule the nation of 24 million. (ANI)
