Islamabad, Dec 25(ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that political parties, the judiciary and the army chief, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, have voiced support for democracy, which would dispel rumors of rift between the country's institutions.
His statement sought to dispel rumors of a rift between Pakistanovernment and the army in the wake of Memo Gate probe and escalating tensions between Islamabad and Washington over the deadly November 26 NATO airstrike.
The Daily Times quoted him, as adding that he welcomed Generalayani's statement that the military had no plans to topple theivilian government.
Pakistan's military had earlier released a statement in which Generalayani told his troops the military would continue supportingemocracy in the country.
The military and civilian leadership had same views years onerrorism, Pakistan-US relations and Kashmir issues for the past fourears, he added.
"We will not do anything while hiding, and whatever is done will come in the open," he said.
Gilani said the Pakistan People's Party government is looking afterhe welfare of the minorities. (ANI)
