Pak Police fail to book man for shaving off wife's head due to lacunae in law

Rawalpindi, Thu, 22 Dec 2011 ANI

Rawalpindi, Dec 22(ANI): Pakistan Police have failed to book a man for shaving off his wife's head due to a lacunae in law which aims to protect women from such humiliation.

Ghulam Ali, 47, allegedly shaved off his wife's head to humiliate her after torturing her in Iqbal Town along Khokhar Road in Pakistan.

Pakistan police said Ali started abusing and physically assaulting his wife, Madiha Shaheen,15, after marrying her about three months ago, The News reports.

The bride's mother, subsequently, lodged a complaint against Ali in Sadiqabad Police Station but was directed to the Shahzad Town Police Station, as the alleged offence falls under the latter's jurisdiction.

The Shahzad Town Police added the Ghulam Ali was involved in numerous criminal activities.

According to police, Pakistan does not have a separate law under the Women Protection Act to declare such crime as an offence. (ANI)
