Islamabad, Dec 20(ANI): Pakistan's Supreme Court has directed all respondents and petitioners to file affidavits in an item-wise format in connection with the Memo Gate scandal.
A nine-member bench headed by Pakistan's Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said the respondents have failed to file replies/rejoinders, which would impede the just decision on the case.
Chaudhary said Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari had not filed his reply yet; saying remaining silent sometime means being party to issue.
"The apex court in constitution petition No 42 of 2011 has held that in order to ascertain as to whether a question of public importance is involved to exercise jurisdiction under Article 184(3) of the constitution, the facts of the case are required to be examined," The Daily Times quoted the court's statement, as saying.
"Therefore, the petitioners as well as the respondents are directed to file affidavits under Order VIII rule 1 of the Supreme Court Rules, 1980, subject to all just exceptions, to clear the cobwebs in the different stands taken by them", the court added.
The apex court directed Pakistan's Attorney General Anwar ul Haq to a report detailing Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's action on the people who had ridiculed the judiciary in the December 1 press conference.
The court also ordered ul-Haq to provide the notifications for a judicial probe into the Abbotabad raid, and former Pakistan envoy Husain Haqqani's resignation.he court adjourned the hearing till December 22 on the request of a lawyer, Asma Jahangir. (ANI)
