Washington, Dec 19 (ANI): Republican presidential contender Michele Bachmann has accused President Barack Obama of leading the country as if it were a "banana republic".
Bachmann said so while condemning Obama's decision of not dramatically moving to cut federal spending and debt levels.
"What I'm doing is saying that the decisions that Barack Obama [are] making is acting like a banana republic," Bachmann said during an appearance on NBC.
"We're acting like Greece and like Italy, and that's what people are frustrated with," she added.
The two European nations are in danger of defaulting on their national debt, part of a broader economic crisis among Eurozone countries.
According to Politico, Bachmann also remained strongly opposed to any extension of the payroll tax cut, arguing that it endangers social security.
"There isn't one shred of evidence that that created jobs. All it's doing is adding to the debt," she said.
The US Senate passed a two-month extension of the social security payroll tax cut on Saturday, but Speaker John Boehner and House Republicans have balked at that proposal, arguing instead for an alternative bill passed by the House.
According to the paper, the White House and Senate Democrats are opposed to the House GOP measure, saying it includes controversial policy riders. (ANI)
