Tehran, Dec 18(ANI): Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has said the country will decide the fate of the downed US spy drone and rejected the US request for returning the drone.
Iranian media had reported earlier that the country's military downed US RQ-170 stealth aircraft in the eastern Iran after finding it crossing the eastern border.
Salehi said Iran currently has the US drone, and the Iranian Supreme National Security Council is empowered to decide about its fate.
Salehi said Iran would highlight this case indicating the US "invasion" of its airspace and would defend its right, Xinhua reports.
Iran had already submitted a letter to the United Nations Secretary General Ban ki Moon, the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement, he added.
He also rejected claims that Iran downed the drone with the help of foreign nations, saying it landed with slight damages due to the effort of the country's armed forces.
US officials, however, denied Iran brought down the drone, and said it had fallen due to mechanical glitches. (ANI)
