Washington, Dec 13(ANI): U.S. intelligence agencies have identified specific Chinese groups for cyber spying in the country and that alleged most of them were sponsored by the Chinese military.
The allegation came after U.S. counterintelligence chief had issued a report accusing China of being the world's "most active and persistent" perpetrator of economic spying.
China has repeatedly rejected cyberspying allegations, saying it is the victim rather than the perpetrators, of cybercrime and cyberespionage.
U.S. officials had earlier called on met with Chinese counterparts and warned them about the consequences of economic spying, a source told the Wall Street Journal.
Several groups connected to China's People's Liberation Army and a half-dozen nonmilitary groups connected to organizations like universities play a significant role in cyber-spying in the US, sources, who were briefed on the probe, said.
The sources added that the National Security Agency(NSA) has identified individuals working in these groups, which would speed up the US counter-attack.
"It's actually a small number of groups that do most of the PLA's dirty work. NSA is pretty confident of their ability to attribute [cyberespionage] to this set of actors," the Center for Strategic and International Studies' cybersecurity specialist James Lewis said.
He said combining cyber-forensics with ongoing intelligence collection through electronic and human spying was instrumental in yielding important clues about the crime.hough US lawmakers have blamed China for its cyber espionage campaign, diplomatic considerations may prevent the country in adopting a more confrontational approach.
Both NSA and Chinese spokesperson declined to comment on the issue. (ANI)
