Kuala Lumpur, Dec 11(ANI): Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) President G. Palanivel has expressed confidence that his party would make a comeback in the next general election, after suffering a defeat in 2008.
He said Malay- Indians are now more confident of MIC and Indians can play a decisive role in Penang constituency, The Star reports.
Speaking on the first anniversary of his tenure as MIC President, Palanivel stressed though his party has become a 'working party', a lot more work needs to be done to regain full confidence of people.
He said creating successful Indian entrepreneurs would be his party's priority who, in turn, would provide better employment opportunities and support for the community.
The MIC will conduct a roadshow to understand the expectations of the Malay-Indian community and meet people involved in the various businesses to devise their strategies.
Highlighting his party's achievements, he said the Malaysian Government has agreed to provide eight million Ringgit for the Suria Cooperative to aid to small businesses, and 100 million Ringgit under Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia for micro-credit loans especially for the urban poor under his party's initiative.
An extra 100 million Ringgit over the Malaysian Education Ministry's approved allocation, has been provided for the development of Tamil schools.
Palanivel said Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has also approved three million Ringgit for the "Reach and Teach Malaysia" campaign, which would provide English language training to pupils from Tamil schools. (ANI)
