Beijing, Dec 10(ANI): China is willing to work with the United States to ensure the development of Information Technology (IT) and combat cyber crime, a senior Chinese information official has said.
"China and the United States have common interests and responsibilities either in promoting Internet development or in defending cyberspace security," The China Daily quoted State Internet Information Office Vice-Minister Qian Xiaoqian, as saying.
"The Internet should become a bridge for the two countries to boost mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win results, and also a positive factor to further the China-US relations," he added.
He was speaking at the annual forum, which was hosted by the Microsoft Corporation and China's Internet Society.
He said both sides should strengthen mutual understanding, promote co- operation, counter cyber crime and defend cyberspace security.
He said Beijing considers the Internet as a significant instrument to augment the country's technological innovation capacity and uplift living standards.
"We are working hard to build a more secure, reliable and useful cyberspace, a favourable environment for Internet technology development and innovation. We regard intellectual property protection as an indispensable precondition for innovation," he said.
He added that e-commerce in China is expected to achieve over one trillion dollar annual turnover in 2011.
China's Ambassador to the United States, Zhang Yesui said dialogue and cooperation in the online field would ensure Internet development worldwide. he number of Chinese netizens has exceeded over 500 million, which forms about 40 percent of the total population. (ANI)
