Washington, Dec 5 (ANI): US President Barack Obama has told his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari during a telephone conversation that the recent NATO attack that killed 24 soldiers was "not deliberate", and promised a "full investigation" into the tragedy.
"The president (Obama) made clear that this regrettable incident was not a deliberate attack on Pakistan and reiterated the United States's strong commitment to a full investigation," the Daily Times quoted a statement issued by the White House, as saying.
"The two presidents reaffirmed their commitment to the US-Pakistan bilateral relationship, which is critical to the security of both nations, and they agreed to stay in close touch," it added.
Obama had earlier refused to formally apoligise for the incident, saying that senior leaders like US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had already condoled over the death of the Pakistani troops.
On Saturday, Clinton had also called to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to express deep her condolences over the tragedy and to reaffirm Washington's respect for the key regional country's sovereignty. (ANI)
