Cairo, Dec. 2 (ANI): Egypt has postponed the announcement of results of the first phase of People's Assembly elections till December 2.
This is the second time that an announcement of results has been postponed, as the vote count has not been completed yet due to high voter turnout.
The results were initially scheduled to be announced on November 30,Xinhua reports.
The results of independent candidates and the votes of party lists are expected to be announced on December 1, while the final results for party lists in mid-January.
The elections marked first legislative process after former president Hosni Mubarak was toppled in February following mass protests against his 30-year rule.
Official figures showed that the about 17 million voters turned up for the first phase of elections.
The People's Assembly polls would be held over three stages, each followed by a run-off one week after the vote.
The whole process will end on January 10, 2012, and the final results announced by January 13.
The People's Assembly would elect a 100-member constituent committee to draft the country's new constitution, which will then be put to a referendum.(ANI)
