Tehran, Nov 28 (ANI): A senior Iranian military commander has said his nation would target Turkey if US or Israel tries to attack its nuclear installations.
Ali Hajizadeh, Commander of the Air Defense Division of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, threatened to target NATO's missile defence shield in the neighbouring country.
"If there is a threat we will target NATO's missile shields in Turkey and will then go after the next targets," Hajizadeh said.
The warning is part of is part of a new strategy devised by the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that consists of responding 'to threats with threats,' the New York Daily News reports.
Tensions between Iran and Western nations have increased after the UN atomic watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released a report suggesting Iran was seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
The report was followed by additional sanctions imposed last week by the US and UK against the Persian Gulf country.
Iran, however, said that the IAEA report was politically motivated and influenced by Western countries. (ANI)
