Islamabad, Nov 25 (ANI): Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was never interested in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) otherwise she would not have supported the lawyers' movement.
He told former law minister and federation's counsel, Babar Awan, that he should be proud of his leader, as former Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir, in her book 'Reconciliation, Islam, Democracy and West' stated that it was Pervez Musharraf who had benefited from the NRO.
"She always preferred Pakistan's interest, but now the beneficiaries of the NRO wanted to defend it," the Daily Times quoted the chief justice, as saying.
He also said that former Attorney General Malik Qayyum had pursued the cases of Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari and did his best to convict them when he was a judge of the Lahore High Court, but the Supreme Court had set aside that judgement.
"He humiliated Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari," the Chief Justice added. (ANI)
