Qureshi 'keeps options open' about future political stand despite meeting Sharif

Islamabad, Wed, 23 Nov 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Nov 23 (ANI): Former Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has reportedly met Pakistan Muslim League-N President Nawaz Sharif, but is still keeping his options open about his future in politics.

The Dawn quoted well informed sources as saying that Qureshi has asked for some time to "consult members of his group before making up his mind".

Cricketer turned politician Imran Khan had earlier claimed that Qureshi would be joining his Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) party.

However, sources say that the PML-N has a different version of the story.

"The PML-N is happy to keep Mr Qureshi engaged and Imran Khan guessing," sources added.

According to people close to Qureshi, the former foreign minister might not join the PTI because he was considering two options-forming his own party or joining the PML-N.

Quereshi was reportedly embarrassed by Imran Khan's claim about his joining the PTI, which was not the case, because he is yet to take a final decision. The sources believe that Khan did not get the notion right.

"Qureshi has been a foreign minister and a successful one. Now, he is looking beyond that post. Neither the PTI nor the PML-N is in a position to offer him anything beyond that. That is precisely where Qureshi is stuck," the sources added. (ANI)
