Beijing, Nov 22(ANI): China has highlighted various policies to mitigate climate change and its consequences during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010) period.
According to a White Paper, titled 'China's Policies and Actions for Addressing Climate Change', which was released by the State Council Information Office, the country has achieved significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions through industrial restructuring, energy restructuring and energy conservation, improving energy efficiency, and increasing carbon sink.
The White Paper also pointed out that China achieved all energy targets enlisted in the 11th Five- Year Plan, and accelerated its economic development during the same period.
According to the paper, China's energy consumption reduced to 19.1 percent from that of 2005, the Xinhua news agency reports.
China became the first developing country to devise and implement a national climate change programme in 2007.
China has set a target to reduce the per-unit Gross Domestic Product greenhouse gas emission by 40 percent to 45 percent in 2020, as compared to that of 2005. (ANI)
