London, Nov 21 (ANI): A group of Israeli women have posed naked to show solidarity with an Egyptian student who attracted a slew of death threats after posting naked self-photographs on the Internet to defy Islamic extremism in her country.
Pictures posted by Aliaa Magda Elmahdy, a media arts student at the American University in Cairo, received 1.5 million hits and thousands of insults since last week.
Some even denounced Elmahdy as a 'prostitute' and 'mentally sick' or urged police to arrest her.
Or Tepler, the Israeli behind the recent photoshoot, said she was shocked by the reaction to Elmahdy's photos, the Independent reports.
"I felt that when a liberal, enlightened woman in Cairo cannot express herself ... I should show solidarity," she said.
Mahdy's act has been condemned on both sides of the political divide in Egypt.
According to the paper, the Israeli shoot further risks inflaming public feeling, given the widespread hostility towards the Jewish State in Egypt. (ANI)
